The
Sew-n-Sews is a local sewing group that meets every Tuesday
night at 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at A Time 2 Sew in downtown
Collinsville. In the words of Vanessa Chambers, "We are not a
guild and we have no dues. Each week we get together and work on different
projects. Not just quilting, but cross-stitch, embroidery,
crochet, knitting etc… We just try to help each other. Sometimes,
we don’t even sew at all. Maybe we need to sing, pray, talk, or
cry. You can come and go as you please, you don’t have to stay the
whole time".
In
2001 the Sew-n-Sews established the Collinsville Annual Quilt Walk
to help keep the interest in quilts and quilting alive. The event
was intended to raise money for local projects and the Library Building
Fund was adopted as the recipient of the proceeds. Each year the Sew-n-Sews
donate a quilt, as a fundraiser for this event ~ all material and time to
make this quilt is donated. Over the last 3 years the quilt walk has
displayed over 1500 quilts and has provided more than $16,000 for the
Collinsville Library Building Fund. The two-day event enjoys
tremendous support from local merchants and over 75 volunteers. For
